Are allergies making every breath a struggle? Finding relief can be as simple as turning to natures remedies. From Herbal teas to simple lifestyle adjustments, there are numerous ways to alleviate allergy symptoms.
An allergy quick recap if you missed part 1: Allergy-Proof Your Home: 10 Natural Hacks For Easy Relief
Allergies occur when your immune system overreacts to foreign substances, like pollen or food particles. The immune system creates antibodies, labeling the particular substance you are allergic to as bad. When you come in contact with the allergen, your immune system reacts, causing the cold-like symptoms that have you questioning, am I sick?
The severity of allergies can range from a light sniffle to anaphylaxic shock. No matter the reaction, allergies are a part of life and they are not fun.
Allergies, both indoor and outdoor, can cause:
- Watery, red, and/or swollen eyes
- Excessive sneezing
- Runny and stuffy nose
- Itchy ears, nose, throat and eyes
- Tingling in the throat and mouth when eating raw vegetables with pollen residue on them.
These symptoms can lead to sinus infections. Especially if you have chronic sinusitis. The use of antihistamines, nasal sprays, and cold medicine disrupts the natural balance of your sinuses and can cause further irritation.
There is no, “one shoe fits all”, for alleviating allergy symptoms. I hope you find relief and comfort from our list of remedies.

These 11 natural remedies for allergies will help you breathe easy and conquer allergy discomfort.
1. AllerDx – these are the best herbal antihistamines I have ever tried. My family of 4 all use them. The ingredients are effective at reducing allergy symptoms such as a runny nose and itchy eyes. They work within 15 minutes of taking them, and they do not leave you feeling groggy, tired, or drugged. These are our go-to the moment someone feels an allergy attack coming on.
2. Nasal Rinses– While not as quick to reduce symptoms as the AlleDX, this trick works wonders on keeping the sinus clear and clean. I make our saline solution, ½ tsp salt to 1 cup Reverse Osmosis filtered water. I even add a couple of drops of tea tree oil to the solution. It assists in the killing of bacteria and fungal spores. I place the cup of saline water and tea tree solution into our water pick. It has a nasal attachment. For me, it is so much easier than a Neti pot or sinus bottle, to deliver the cleanse.
3. White Flower External Analgesic Balm. Place a tiny drop on your finger and rub it under your nose. WARNING! If your nose is raw from blowing it will burn. Place it on the tip of your nose if it’s raw. Do not get it too close to your eyes, or they will burn as well. It has a menthol-like smell and opens up the nasal passages immediately.
4. Homemade Honey Onion Cough Syrup. It’s no secret that honey and onions are powerful foods used for a variety of ailments. Don’t let the name fool you. This is not only for coughs.
- Raw, unfiltered honey can be used to reduce allergy symptoms and help the immune system be less reactive to allergens. Look for local raw honey for maximum benefit. Also, try for a glass jar. Plastic can leach microplastics into the honey.
- Onions have several cold-fighting properties, but it’s the Quercetin in them that is particularly helpful in fighting allergies. It acts as a natural antihistamine.
- The Honey Onion Syrup can thin mucus and reduce allergy symptoms.
5. Steam Shower. Taking a hot shower and breathing in the steam will soothe irritated nasal passages and help remove allergens in the nasal cavities, chest, and throat. Reducing the inflammation and opening up the airways will bring comfort and allow the body to rid itself of the irritants.
6. Warm Compress. Warm compresses are great for itchy, running eyes. The moist heat draws allergens away while soothing the irritated eye. These should be applied for 10 minutes and can be repeated as often as you like.
- Use preservative free tear drops to moisturize and flush out allergens. I like Thera Tear’s preservative free drops.
- Don’t use the warm comprise for nasal congestion pain. When you feel pain in your face due to sinus congestion, an ice pack will be more soothing. It will reduce the inflammation and relieve the headache associated with it.
7. Use a Diffuser. A diffuser is a great way to deliver essential oils and open up airways. When it’s allergies we are fighting, we use eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, or a blended oil called Breathe Ease. Much like the White Flower I mentioned earlier, these oils reduce inflammation in the airways. Making it much easier to breathe.
8. Hydration. Staying Hydrated is extremely important in helping the body fight allergens. When dehydrated, our mucus membranes don’t work as they should. Allergens can become trapped. The mucus we produce is too thick to carry them away. This helps to confuse the immune system even more since its hard work to remove the toxin isn’t working.
Staying hydrated helps the whole body work at optimal conditions. It allows the mucus to flow freely and the immune system, to remove the allergens.

9. Neutralizer Treatment This one is new to me. However, I have tried for years to cure my Chronic Sinusitis with no luck. I came across a functional medicne to doctor, Dr. Jon Kaiser, who treats all his patients suffering from sinus and congestion issues, colds, and allergies with this technique.
- Here is a link to his video. He explains and shows you what you need to do. His comment section is full of success stories. Using a Nebulizer to Cleanse Your Sinuses.
- Put 4 parts saline solution and 1 part food grade Hydrogen Proxcie into the machine and breathe in the fine mist it creates. It will cause your nose to tingle and you make sneeze. You can do this up to 3 times a day if symptoms are severe. If you would like a little stronger clean-out. Use 3 part saline to 1 part Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide. Make sure the Peroxide is Food Grade and only 3%
- The jury is still out on if it will cure my sinusitis. However, the results have been promising.
10. Drink Teas. Tea is the most consumed beverage around the world second only to water. Teas have so many healing properties. However, when purchasing tea, be sure to check the label, and only purchase loose-leaf teas or tea bags that are organic and non-GMO. We are trying to alleviate allergy symptoms, so being as pure as possible is key.
- Coltsfoot Tea is a natural expectorant. It aids the body in removing mucus. It’s an excellent choice when sick or suffer from allergy congestion. It is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and soothes the respiratory tract. It is naturally sweet and delicious on its own. Add a little honey for extra allergy relief.
- Chai Tea can ease the pain of headaches and sore sore throats. The ginger and cloves within the Chai tea are especially good at reducing pain. Cinnamon is an excellent anti-inflammatory and natural sweetener, and the cardamom will help clear sinuses.
- Licorice Root Tea is a very sweet tea with several health benefits. The root is sweeter than cane sugar. It boosts the respiratory system, digestive system, and is anti-inflammatory. This is a tasty treat for those of you who like sweet tea. It will reduce allergens affecting the respiratory tract.
- Buddha Teas — Cold Weather Defense Blend is perfect for allergies and colds. This blend has Elderberry for immune boosting health, Eucalyptus for sinus congestion, and Ginger for inflammation. This tea is not just for the cold weather season!
11. Exercise. I know this is the last thing you want to do when you feel like garbage. However, exercise increases blood flow and reduces inflammation. This leads to the body flushing out toxins faster than if you had skipped the gym because of your stuffy nose. You will actually breathe better and have fewer symptoms within 30 minutes of starting the exercise. So the next time you feel like putting on your pajamas and taping a tissue box to your butt, try exercising.
- Simple at-home exercises can be found on YouTube if the gym is not your thing. Look for Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, or HIIT workouts. Don’t forget to untape those tissues! 🙂
Being proactive in protecting against allergens, eating healthy, and staying active are the best ways to fight allergies. While we can’t cure them, we can certainly control them so they do not control us.!
